The Cosworth engine in stock form is no match for a stock Evo 9 engine. You can get just as much power from a Cosworth YB as you can a 4G63. Luckily, this version of the Ford Escort is still fuel efficient despite being a turbocharged car. According to reports, it gets an average of 32 miles to the gallon. Regarding speed, the Ford Escort RS Turbo is much better than the regular Escort. The RS Turbo accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 8.8 seconds. Replace the plastic knobs with cheaply plated pot-metal and you’d have the controls from a 1963 Ford truck here. These 1.9 engines have proven to be fairly reliable in the 24 Hours of LeMons, which is a good indicator of resistance to horrific levels of driver abuse.
